Taking a different approach now. I'm just downloading everything from Games Domain. Alphabetically.
Well, not everything. Just things that look interesting.

Nah, Tropico was okay, if you're into that Sim-management thingy. It doesn't do it for me anymore. Let's try this Hostile Waters: Antaeus Rising thing. Hmmm.... Can't find a downloadable demo.

Tropico perhaps?

So, I played Star Trek: Away Team and liked it. If the Jedi Princess likes it, it may become our new co-op game (last one: Diablo II).

Session Report: August 18, 2003
Games played: Smarty Party, Taj Mahal
Gamers: Mike, Rob, Josh, Sara, Lowell, Chip, Lewis, Eric, John
Thanks to Josh for hosting, thanks to Lewis for giving us a ride.
SMARTY PARTY (1:05 + 0:10 rules)
Josh: won
Mike: second
Rob: third
Sara, Lowell, Chip, Lewis, Eric, John: varying degrees of lost
This was a mildly amusing trivia game. I liked the fact that the game allowed players to improve their position (by moving backwards), and our relative positions changed drastically from round to round. For example, early on in the game Mike was in last place, with his token about half-way across the board. Later in the game he was in first place, because his token was more or less in the same position.
It's quite possible for the game to drag. There is a timer that the "moderator" can use to force a player to answer, but it's not always in the moderator's best interest to force a player to act quickly. Also, the moderator can be as lenient or picky as s/he wants when considering player's responses. For example, if the correct answer were "George W. Bush", and player A responded with "George Bush", the moderator could reject the answer. If the next player said, "President Shrub", the moderator could decide that this answer was close enough.
There are other party games (especially Balderdash or Taboo) that I would play before playing this game again.
TAJ MAHAL (1:40)
Chip: 29
Josh: 30
Eric: 30
Sara: 36
Rob: 43
I enjoyed this game, although I did rather horribly. I was encouraged by the fact that Josh (who had played before) kept me company at the lower end of the scoreboard.
I didn't collect much of anything other then cards in my hand. I tried to make more of an effort to compete for resources (instead of using as few cards as possible), but that didn't work either. Even if I decided that I would try to use all my cards, other players were able to sneak away with the majority in something or other before I got all of my cards on the table. None of this, of course, is the fault of the game - I simply made a series of bad choices.
I like this game and would happily play again. I would focus more on the commodities, as they seem to have the most potential value if gathered early on.

Star Trek Away Team doesn't come recommended, but I'll try it anyways. Many of the download links had expired, but Games Domain had what I was looking for.
